Motorway vignette
Italy has no vignette. Motorways (autostrade) are tolled per kilometre: you take a ticket when you enter and pay when you exit (cash, card or Telepass). Some urban motorways are free. Any website selling an 'Italian vignette' is not legitimate — no such product exists.
Limited-traffic / low-emission city zones (ZTL)
Italy has no national low-emission zone, but dozens of cities enforce their own restricted zones. In Milan, Area C is a congestion charge (€5 per day) and Area B is a low-emission zone that bans older diesels; Rome has six ZTLs (Centro Storico, Tridente, Trastevere and others). Cameras record every unauthorised entry and each gate you pass costs €83–100 — fines often arrive by post at your home address months later, so one wrong turn can mean several tickets. Enter only with a valid permit or authorisation.

112 is the single emergency number in Italy; you can also call 113 for the police, 115 for the fire brigade and 118 for an ambulance. ACI road assistance is on 803116. In an accident with injuries, call for help and stay at the scene.

The revisione (periodic inspection) is mandatory: the first one is due after 4 years, then every 2 years. The state Portale dell'Automobilista is the authoritative source for dates and rules.

RC Auto liability insurance is compulsory. IVASS is the official state insurance regulator and publishes consumer information; CONSAP runs the guarantee fund (Fondo di Garanzia) for victims of uninsured drivers, and UCI is the green-card bureau.

Servicing and repairs in Italy are a commercial matter — there is no state authority or official register for them. Use your car brand's dealer locator to find an authorised workshop (officina).
