Road user charge (passenger cars exempt)
An ordinary passenger car (M1) pays nothing on Lithuanian roads. The road user charge is an electronic vignette tied to the number plate (camera-enforced, no sticker) and applies to buses and commercial vehicles — including N1 vans up to 3.5 t, so while you pay nothing in a car, in a small delivery van you do owe the charge. From 2026, electric and hydrogen commercial vehicles and buses get a 75% discount. Important: reseller websites offering a Lithuanian "e-vignette" for a passenger car are selling something that does not exist — do not pay them.

Lithuania has no barrier or gate tolls. The only road charge is the electronic road user charge, which passenger cars do not pay — so for a car there is nothing to buy. Any website offering to sell you a Lithuanian road toll for a passenger car is selling nothing.

Liability insurance is compulsory for every registered vehicle. The Lithuanian Motor Insurers' Bureau (cab.lt) is the national green-card body and guarantee fund, and offers a public "check vehicle insurance" lookup on its website.
