Repeated discharge
A new battery, and a month later it's flat again? When the discharge repeats, replacing the battery usually doesn't solve the problem — it postpones it. Here are the five real causes, ordered by how often we see them.
Same car, same weather. One day parked outside in the sun, the next day under a carport. Temperature logged by an independent recorder placed next to the battery:
| Outside in the sun | Under a carport | |
|---|---|---|
| time above 35 °C | 310 minutes | 0 minutes |
| time above 40 °C | 121 minutes | 0 minutes |
| peak temperature | 40.7 °C | 34.2 °C |
In the morning it was actually half a degree warmer under the carport — the difference is direct sun, not the day. The car outside spent five hours above 35 °C, and the battery voltage was perfectly healthy the whole time. That is exactly why heat damage cannot be read from a single measurement — it only shows in how the battery behaves over time.
A van on the Trnava–Žilina route stopped halfway. The battery was fine — the alternator had failed, and from that moment the car ran on the battery alone until it was empty. Without measuring, the driver has no way to know: the car drives normally until everything goes dark at once.
This is exactly why QZ watches the voltage during driving too: when the engine is running yet the voltage stays below resting level for minutes on end, it is not a battery problem but a charging problem — and the alert says so directly, while you can still stop at a garage instead of on the hard shoulder.
Each of the five causes shows up in the voltage before the car fails to start. QZ measures directly at the battery terminals, continuously, and alerts you over the mobile network — wherever you are. It also knows your battery type (flooded, EFB, AGM, GEL and LiFePO4 have different healthy bands), so the warning comes when your battery actually needs it.
Honestly: QZ cannot name the exact circuit behind a hidden drain — that takes a current measurement at a workshop. What QZ shows you is that the problem exists, since when, how fast it is getting worse — and it calls before you end up stranded.
